physical-therapyTherapeutic exercise is a key component to any and all rehabilitation and is commonly referred to as physical therapy. Chiropractors often times use therapeutic exercise with manipulation and adjustments to help aide in the recovery process and to maintain the state of well-being and have the goal to achieve the optimal level of physical fitness by the end of the treatment plan.

Common Conditions that Warrant Physical Therapy
  • Back and neck pain
  • Amputation
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Sports injury
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Fibromyalgia

Types of rehabilitation are used to DECREASE pain and stiffness, IMPROVE motion coordination, INCREASE range of motion and strength, MOBILIZE joints, and RELEASE contracted muscles, tendons, and fascia.

Physical agents such as ice, ultrasound, heat, electrical stimulation, cervical traction may be used in treatment plans. Often times, therapeutic exercise is needed to maintain the exchange of fluids in spinal structures and reduces swelling that naturally occurs in the tissues surrounding an injured disc. Any amount of swelling can further irritate nerves that have already been affected.
